Marketing for House Painters in Walnut Creek and Concord

House painters in Contra Costa County have something many businesses would love: work that looks great in photos. A freshly painted Craftsman in Walnut Creek or a stucco home in Concord with a crisp new color scheme tells a story at a glance. The trick is getting those images and your business in front of homeowners at the moment they start planning a project.

Here is how I would approach marketing for a small painting business in Walnut Creek, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, and the surrounding area.

Build your marketing around before and after photos

Make taking photos part of every job. You do not need a fancy camera. A recent phone and a few habits will do:

  • Take the "before" shot from the street or the same angle you will use later.

  • Shoot "after" photos in soft light, such as morning or late afternoon.

  • Capture close-ups of clean lines, trim, and detail work.

  • Ask homeowners for permission before sharing photos, and avoid showing house numbers.

These photos will feed your website, Google Business Profile, Houzz, Nextdoor, and social media for months.

Make your website a portfolio with clear next steps

Homeowners want to see your work and understand how you work. A painter's website should include:

  1. A gallery organized by project type, like interior, exterior, cabinets, and commercial

  2. A short description of your process, from color consultation to cleanup

  3. The cities you serve

  4. Your license number and insurance information

  5. A simple quote request form and a tappable phone number

If you have a favorite paint line or offer color consultations, mention it. Those details help homeowners feel you know your craft.

Keep your Google Business Profile active

Many homeowners search "house painters near me" and compare the map results. To stand out:

  • Use "Painter" or the most accurate category as your primary category.

  • If customers do not visit your office, list service areas instead of your home address.

  • Add new project photos every month or two.

  • Use Google posts to share a recent project or seasonal reminder, such as booking exterior work before the rainy season.

An active profile with fresh photos and reviews looks more trustworthy than one that has not changed in years.

Ask every homeowner for a review

The best time is right after the final walkthrough, when the homeowner is admiring the results. Send a short text with your Google review link that same day. A few reminders:

  • Ask every customer, not just the happiest ones. Google does not allow review gating.

  • Never offer a discount or gift for a review. Google does not allow that either.

  • Do not ask for Yelp reviews. Yelp discourages it. Just keep your Yelp page accurate.

Reply to reviews with a sincere, specific thank you. Mentioning the type of project, like "the exterior repaint," is fine. Just leave out personal details and addresses.

Use Houzz and Nextdoor for local trust

Homeowners planning a project often browse Houzz for ideas, and many Contra Costa neighborhoods are active on Nextdoor. A complete Houzz profile with your best project photos and an accurate Nextdoor business page give you two more ways to be found. When neighbors recommend you on Nextdoor, thank them.

Plan around the seasons

Exterior painting in the Bay Area is busiest in the dry months. Use slower months to:

  • Promote interior painting and cabinet refinishing

  • Update your website gallery

  • Reach out to past customers by email about spring scheduling

Commercial work deserves a mention too. If you paint offices, retail spaces, or HOA properties around Concord and Pleasant Hill, create a separate page for it with a few project photos and a note about scheduling around business hours. Property managers search differently than homeowners, and a dedicated page helps them see you as a fit.

Where to start

If you want to make progress this week:

  1. Pick your five best recent projects and upload photos to Google and your website.

  2. Send review requests to your last five customers.

  3. Check that your phone number, hours, and service areas match on Google, Yelp, and Houzz.
